Chocolate Cake Chips
Ingredients
- 2 cups (250 g) all-purpose flour
- 1 cup (200 g) granulated sugar
- ½ cup (115 g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup (240 ml) milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup (170 g) chocolate chips
- 2 tablespoons cocoa powder — optional, for a richer chocolate flavor
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch (23 cm) round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
- Cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy, about 2–3 minutes.
- Add the eggs and vanilla and beat until well combined.
- Mix the dry ingredients in a separate bowl: flour, baking powder, salt, and cocoa powder if using.
- Combine the batter: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix just until combined—don’t overmix.
- Add the chocolate chips, gently folding them into the batter.
- Bake for 30–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean or with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack and let it cool completely.
Optional Chocolate Topping
Melt ½ cup (85 g) chocolate chips with 2 tablespoons of heavy cream. Stir until smooth, then drizzle over the cooled cake.
Tip: Toss the chocolate chips with 1 teaspoon of flour before folding them into the batter. This helps prevent them from sinking to the bottom of the cake.
